The STAR™ ZoneScan™ Automatic Leak Reporting (ALR) system is an advanced, highly robust leak monitoring & alarm solution that delivers comprehensive and up-to-date leak information through a secure, long-range wireless network using licensed radio frequencies. The STAR™ ZoneScan™ ALR system provides the timely, high-resolution leak monitoring that enables water utilities to eliminate wasted or abortive site visits and make a much greater and immediate impact on reduction of water loss. STAR™ Network Data Collector Units (DCUs) are intelligent network devices that receive, process, and store precise leak occurrence and positioning information, transmitted from STAR™ ZoneScan™ MTUs. The DCUs forward this information to either the STAR™ ZoneScan™ Control Computer (ZSCC) located at the utility, or to a secure server with mapping and leak positioning software. DCUs connect to the NCC by a variety of backhaul communication networks, including fiber optic, WiFi, and cellular.

The STAR™ ZoneScan™ Control Computer (ZSCC) collects, validates, processes, and stores data transmitted by the STAR™ ZoneScan™ Network DCUs. It provides active leak control teams, operations, and other utility departments with rapid information on leak status, such as new leak alarms and precise leak positioning. The STAR™ ZoneScan™ ALR system also provides a complete range of customizable management and diagnostic reports for active water loss control teams & water conservation strategies.

Presentation of automatic leak reporting
Leak reports and positioning can be delivered directly into Microsoft Windows™ based software, or can be uploaded to a secure web-client programme using Yahoo Maps™.

The Aclara STAR™ ZoneScan™ Network Water Meter Transmission Unit (MTU)

The STAR™ ZoneScan™ Network water MTU makes meter reading more efficient and allows utilities to reduce costs, improve leak awareness and repair times, and manage resources in a far more focused and efficient manner.

The MTU transmits accurate meter readings on utility-defined schedules. Its powerful, narrow-band transmitter broadcasts over FCC-licensed, 450- to 470-MHz radio frequencies. The STAR™ Network MTU works with all pulse- and encoder-register water meters that provide electronic output.
